What Is SoLoMo?

SoLoMo? Social. Local. Mobile.  It is the future. The internet is full of acronyms, and in fact the internet really took off on the back of a famous acronym, AOL or America Online.  AOL helped change the way that people communicate with one another.  They made it easy for anyone to have a free email account and send a message to another person in minutes, not days.  We are in the midst of another massive change in the way we communicate. The mobile revolution has put the power of the internet in the palm of our hand and the way we buy things and communicate with businesses and each other will never be the same. Social Humans are social animals.  Humans need other humans.  Our success has been based on coming together to accomplish shared goals for mutual benefit.  We also enjoy the companionship of like minded people and so we form communities and networks and groups.  These relationships with like minded people give us the freedom to trust their opinions much more than we do people outside our circles.  We are much more likely to try something new if someone we trust has recently tried it and liked it. Google created a lot of “buzz” around Google Plus, their most recent social networking platform.  The growth rate of the user base has far exceeded all social networks of the past, but many people debate about it’s overall level of success.  Loyal Google fans recognize the social media site as a unique from Facebook and Twitter despite the frequent comparisons.  Businesses are especially finding that have a Google Plus Local Business Page can add substantial marketing and branding power to their online presence and mobile marketing efforts.  Google Places now show up in Google Plus Local, but it is important for local businesses to make sure that they understand a few things about the switch. Surprisingly, Google has made another major change.  No, it’s not a panda from venice or a farmer or even a penguin.  Google Places will become Google+ Local.  Google+ Local is now simply a tab on your Google+ profile.  Google launched Google+ in June of 2011 and acquired Zagat in September 2011.  Google+ Local is the integration of Zagat into search results.  You can find reviews from friends, scores and Zagat reviews at plus.google.com/local.   Update Your Google+ Page Today!
